Pulling together to deliver new navy vessel for Norway

Bath businesses are to work together in delivering a new vessel for the Norwegian navy.

BMT subsidiary Defence Services, which is based on Lower Bristol Road, has been confirmed as the design contractor for the Norwegian Defence Logistics Organisation's (NDLO) logistics and support vessel.

The company will be supported by sister companies Reliability Consultants in Fareham, and BMT Isis, also on Lower Bristol Road, for the project thought to be worth £140 million.

The vessel, which will be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, will measure 180m in length, 26m in beam, and have a displacement of over 26,000 tonnes.

This new addition to the fleet is due to be delivered to the Royal Norwegian Navy during 2016.

Defence sector director of BMT Group, David Bright, said: "We are delighted to have secured this prestigious contract in the face of strong international competition.

"Delivering the Norwegian LSV in partnership with DSME will undoubtedly challenge our staff to demonstrate the full extent of their design and engineering expertise."
