Back in 2005 a Submarine Escape Equipment Users Panel (SEE) meeting was held by the UK MoD to try and resolve various technical issues being encountered at the time. This was a small meeting held in Gosport, UK; key industry was invited to help resolve any problems and highlight any new equipment being developed.
Due to the success of this inaugural meeting, the group grew and, along with the Ops and Medical Panel meetings, became an important reporting opportunity for the SMERWG meetings.
The three groups then met together and this has become the Winter SMERWG meeting which still reports to the main SMERWG meeting usually held in June.
