BAE Systems has been awarded a three-year contract by the US Navy to provide engineering and other services for modernise weapon launch platforms on US and allied submarines.

The company will provide the navy with a range of support services like development, analysis and integration of new weapon launch and payload systems, mechanical configuration and interface control and fabrication, assembly, installation and evaluation of test facilities and naval platforms.

The total value of the contract is estimated to be $13.8m, with the initial award from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center valued at $3.4m.

As a part of the contract, teams of engineers and specialists will provide on-call, expert knowledge about legacy submarine systems. The contract will support operations of the US Navy across the world.

“By combining legacy knowledge with operational understanding and new engineering tools, we’ve been proudly evolving to support this important customer for more than 40 years.”

The company will carry out the work on the latest contract at its facilities in Middletown, Rhode Island, and Groton, Connecticut.
