Kongsberg and thyssenkrupp, together with thyssenkrupp subsidiary Atlas Elektronik, have formally established their new Norwegian-German submarine combat systems joint venture (JV).
The new company, given the name kta Naval Systems, will develop, produce and maintain combat systems as an exclusive supplier for submarines designed and built by thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (tkMS). An official founding ceremony was held in Kongsberg, Norway, on 31 October in the presence of government officials from both nations, and senior representatives of the three industry partners.
The creation of kta Naval Systems follows Norway’s decision last February to enter into a strategic partnership with Germany for the joint acquisition and support of new Type 212CD common design submarines.
